Dr. Unruh is currently a Professor of Anesthesiology at the Kansas University Medical Center School of Medicine (KUMC SOM). He graduated from Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and biology, received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from KUMC SOM and completed an internship in Internal Medicine and his residency in anesthesiology, also from KUMC SOM.
Dr. Unruh has held various leadership positions within the Department of Anesthesiology and KUMC SOM including anesthesiology residency associate program director and program director and ACGME Designated Institutional Official, Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, overseeing 67 accredited programs with 660 residents and fellows. He also served as a trustee of the Anesthesiology Foundation, and on the Boards of Kansas University Physicians Inc. and University of Kansas Physicians.
Dr. Unruh has served as the President of the Kansas City Anesthesiology Society, President of the Kansas Society of Anesthesiologists, KS Director on the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Board of Directors and has been a longstanding delegate to the House of Delegates. He continues to serve as chair of the ASA Committee on Expert Witness Review and President of the national Anesthesia Foundation.
Dr. Unruh served as President and other offices of the Wyandotte-Johnson County Medical Society prior to the merger with Kansas City Medical Society, and then served several KCMS terms in various roles including treasurer and President Elect. He is a firm believer in organized medicine and it’s value as a collective voice on physician issues.
Dr. Unruh has three adult children, lives in Olathe and enjoys snow skiing, bike riding, spending time with family and friends, and all the Kansas City sports, as well as Kansas University basketball.New Paragraph
