Director of Health Access

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Location: Hybrid, in KC metro

Reports To: CEO

    Summary of Position:


    The Director of Health Access leads the Foundation’s core charitable care programs—Wy Jo Care and Metro Care—and drives agency-wide strategies to improve access, impact, and equity. This leadership role ensures high-quality service delivery, manages a dynamic team, cultivates sustainable programming, and fosters strategic collaboration with medical, nonprofit, and public health partners. The Director will guide continuous improvement and use data and community input to align programming with shared healthcare priorities.


    Key Responsibilities:


    Program Strategy and Management

    • Oversee and grow charitable care programs (Wy Jo Care and Metro Care), ensuring timely referral processing, practice recruitment, and service coordination.
    • Design and implement strategic improvements that enhance reach, equity, and operational efficiency.
    • Track and report program outcomes that demonstrate impact on patient health, system savings, and community wellness.

    Staff Leadership and Team Development

    • Supervise and support program staff, promoting professional growth, accountability, and a culture of collaboration.
    • Facilitate regular staff meetings, performance check-ins, and cross-training to align team efforts with strategic goals.
    • Lead internal workflows that ensure effective case management, provider engagement, and community referral response.

    Quality Assurance and Program Evaluation

    • Monitor quality metrics to evaluate service delivery, patient outcomes, and stakeholder satisfaction.
    • Oversee the development of dashboards and reports that inform continuous learning and decision-making.
    • Guide learning and process improvements based on data analysis, staff input, and patient/provider feedback.

    Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, clinics, health systems, public health departments, and social service agencies.
    • Convene stakeholders across the metro to assess gaps in care and collaborate on solutions.
    • Engage partner agencies in shared planning, evaluation, and resource alignment to increase regional healthcare capacity.

    Sustainability and Innovation

    • Identify and advance opportunities to expand services through new partnerships, funding streams, or delivery models.
    • Ensure that program development is rooted in community needs, organizational capacity, and long-term viability.
    • Represent the Foundation in strategic planning efforts and community health coalitions.
  • Qualifications:

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
    • Minimum of three years’ experience in program management, healthcare access, or population health, including supervisory responsibility.
    •  Demonstrated success in staff leadership, program evaluation, and continuous improvement.
    • Strong communication skills and experience cultivating cross-sector relationships.
    • Proficiency in analyzing data to drive decision-making; familiarity with electronic health record or case management systems a plus.

    Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000

    Summary of Position:


    The Kansas City Medical Society Foundation seeks a contract Project Manager to lead a 6-month, grant-funded collaborative planning effort. The project aims to co-create a regional logic model and evaluation framework to support healthcare workforce development and equitable access to career pathways for students in under-resourced communities. This initiative provides the basis for success for a larger collective impact effort in 2026.  If successful, this role may develop into a position for a full-time, salaried Program Director. 


    Scope of Work

    • Lead and coordinate a collaborative planning process
    • Facilitate communications with partner organizations
    • Ensure meeting effectiveness and adherence to timeline through preparation, coordination, and follow-through with collaborative partners
    • Manage the work of contract facilitator and evaluator
    • Integrate data from partner sources and regional assessments
    • Prepare drafts and final versions of:
    1. Logic model
    2. Shared evaluation framework
    3. Final summary report
    • Manage presentation of logic model and framework in 2026

    Deliverable

    • Bi-weekly progress updates
    • Coordinated partner convenings (5-7)
    • Draft and final logic model and evaluation framework 
    • Written project report suitable for funder submission
    • Presentation event January 2026

    • Proven project management skills in public health, workforce development, or nonprofit collaboration
    • Strong grounding in adaptive leadership
    • Experience with collective impact and cross-sector coalitions
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Familiarity with healthcare workforce
